Kick-Off at 9am (YES, 9am)
Final Score: W 23-0

Match report by coach Justin Evans

A wet, windy, 9 o'clock kick off against Bryant was the start to our Saturday morning. The weather conditions dictated a tight game and with the wind behind us we opted to kick for position whenever in possession in our own half. Following an even first ten minutes, BU hooker Steve broke the deadlock with a surge from the back of a maul. Freshman Nick Haaganfels added the conversion to give us a 7-0 lead. The try initiated a period of sustained possession for us which brought about a further three points from Nick's boot and following quick thinking from the base of the ruck, a try for no.8 Pete Yanulis. With the wind becoming increasingly strong we were left wondering if the 15-0 lead at half time would be enough.

As expected, Bryant came out strong for the second half, opting to try to pin us back in our own 22 using the boot. Good coverage from Tristan at full back and wings Tim and Ben however meant BU were able to weather the onslaught. With the lineout working smoothly and the tight five enjoying superiority in the scrum, BU began to take control. Some great handling and support play put us close to the visitor's line, and a quickly taken tap penalty allowed skipper Jon to exploit the overlap to touch down. Nick again added the conversion to put us 22-0 up. Determined to keep a clean sheet, BU battled to the end to ensure a deserved victory.

The B side, keen to improve on their record of just one defeat, started strongly, but facing the strong wind had to settle for a scoreless first half. Nine changes at the half and with the wind now in our favour, BU started to dominate and tries from freshmen Matt and Paul gave us a 10-0 victory.

It was good to see so many boys out on such a miserable day and very pleasing to not concede a point in either game. Next week we head to St. Michael's in Vermont.
