Final Score: L 22-14

Match report by coach Justin Evans

The long journey to Willams College seemed to take its toll on BU as they never really came out for the first half. A lack of commitment in the rucks and a string of penalties, each punished by the home side's kicker, saw us go in at the half a very disappointing 17-0.

Some stern words at half-time, and the visitor's came out with a completely different approach for the remaining forty minutes. The BU pack began to be far more competitive at the breakdown and turned over a series of the home side's possession. Good teamwork set the platform for Freshman Joji to crash over under the posts, Tristan slotting the simple conversion. Williams offered tough defence and some intelligent decision making and pin point kicking from their scrum half offered them relief. BU, however continued to dominate and were rewarded with a try from Tim, again Tristan adding the 2 points to set up a thrilling finish. At 17-14, instead of going for the jugular, BU tried to over complicate proceedings and a breakaway from the Williams centre effectively finished the game as a contest as they moved to 22-14 with minutes to spare.

Obviously disappointing to lose to a team which for the most part of the second half we dominated, but at least it proved a big improvement on the beating we received in the spring.

The B side again showed some great attacking rugby, wing Evan outsprinting the defence to help himself to a brace of tries and Bulldog (a prop - don't even know his real name!) touching down from close in to give us a 21-15 victory.

On Wednesday we matched our Rookies against Harvard's to give valuable experience to the new recruits. They played with great spirit and at great pace to win 26-12.

Although the loss to Williams was difficult to take since we did not play to our potential, the club as a whole has had a productive last couple of weeks, winning four out of the last five games. This week we play Bryant at home. At the moment it's scheduled for Saturday, 9am kick off on Harvard's Field, but check the website just in case of a late change.
